2009 TMA European Conference - Amsterdam

18 – 19 June 2009


130 delegates from 15 countries gathered at the Marriott Hotel in Amsterdam for the second TMA European conference. Preceded by a welcoming banquet, sponsored by Huron Consulting Group and attended by 100 guests, the conference commenced with an early breakfast hosted by Cuatrecasas. This set delegates up nicely for the opening comments from conference Chairman Edwin den Boer, from BDO CampsObers Business Restructuring Services.

A change in program meant that the first session of the day was a panel chaired by Max Falckenberg of Roland Berger who gave a summary of current market conditions across Europe, with his panel, comprising:

Following on from this review of the current conditions, a further panel, Chaired by John Willcock, Editor of Global Turnaround, sought to predict future trends across Europe, with the following representatives:

  • Philippe Grabli, Oneida Asscociates, France
  • Angel Fernandez, Uría Menéndez

After a break for coffee, the group reconvened to hear about the opportunities for turnaround & restructuring in Eastern Europe. Petr Smutny, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Czech Republic, Anna Maria Pukszto, Salans, Warsaw and Timothy Stubbs, Salans, Russia, provided this overview.

For the final session of the morning, Edwin den Boer Chaired a discussion panel addressing key questions surrounding Funding in Turnaround, joined by:

To start off the afternoon, Pat Lagrange, President, TMA International gave an overview of the TMA International Strategy. This was closely followed by a panel event reviewing trends and changes in European Insolvency Process and Law. Chairman, Bill Skelly, Heenan Blaikie, Canada examined whether recent changes in European legislation were delivering as expected, joined by his panel. Arthur Perkins, Chairman TMA International, closed the conference with the news that the 2010 European Conference will be hosted in Germany in May 2010 and the conference adjourned to the champagne reception, kindly hosted by The Turnaround Finance Group Nederland and sponsored by Kruger & Partners and Fortis Commercial Finance.
